1989

Joost van der Waay was the first to develop an automatic greenhouse roof washer for Venlo greenhouses.

1990

Van der Waay sells its first greenhouse roof washer.

1992

Van der Waay launches its own contracting service, initially cleaning greenhouses in the Netherlands and later across Europe. While production is outsourced, Van der Waay continues to develop the machines in-house, using customer feedback to make them lighter and more reliable.

1994

Van der Waay develops its first roof washer for wide-span greenhouses and puts it to use in contract work.

2005

Van der Waay develops the first ‘chalking’ machine for contracting company HPW. The mechanical application of coatings on a greenhouse roof is a fact.

2008

Van der Waay develops the predecessor of the AquaJet: the indoor washer. Over time, this machine goes through many improvements before evolving into the current AquaJet.

2010

In collaboration with AVAG and TNO, Van der Waay is helping to establish standard requirements for Service Rails, including limits on the maximum allowable weight of machines on greenhouse roofs.

2010

Van der Waay launches a brush set for the Safety Cart — the first step toward what would eventually become the Top Cleaner V.

2011

Van der Waay decides not to continue the cooperation with third parties, and enter the market with the Top Cleaner greenhouse roof washer.

2013

Van der Waay introduces the Top Cleaner Poly, a roof washer for poly greenhouses.

2014

Van der Waay developed the Aquajet; a machine to clean the inside of the greenhouse. The machine is a real success.

2019

Van der Waay moves to its new factory and celebrates its 30th anniversary. That same year, a specially adapted 1,000 m² Venlo greenhouse was built to test innovations and new developments.

2021

Van der Waay introduces the Glass Repair Cart in response to the growing global demand for a safe solution to replace greenhouse glass. This new repair tool makes safe and efficient glass replacement possible.

2023

Together with a Dutch installer, Van der Waay develops a safe solution for installing insect mesh in ventilation windows, without requiring installers to work inside the greenhouse: the Insect Mesh Mounting Cart.

2025

Due to increasing demand, additional space was needed. The new 840 m² hall also features a mezzanine, allowing efficient storage of stock machines.

2025

The development of the Top Cleaner V marks the next step in the evolution of our machines. Its modular design allows it to be fully customized to the grower’s working methods and needs. Whether it's brushing glass from ridge to gutter, applying coatings with precision, or just cleaning the gutters: any configuration is possible.

2025

The popular AquaJet, known for its efficiency in cleaning and disinfecting the inside of greenhouses, is now also available in an electric version. The AquaJet E is powered by batteries instead of a gasoline engine, offering an emission-free and more sustainable solution for greenhouse cleaning.
